Oxygen (O2) Sensor
Your oxygen sensor, also called an O2 sensor, helps your engine burn fuel properly. This video shows how the sensor reads exhaust oxygen levels and sends that data to the engine computer. An oxygen sensor measures unburned oxygen in the exhaust stream and helps the engine computer adjust the air-fuel mixture. When the signal is accurate, your car can improve fuel economy, reduce emissions, and maintain a more balanced combustion. When an O2 sensor gets slow or fails, your vehicle may run too rich or too lean. Signs of trouble include a check engine light, poor gas mileage, failed emissions test, or slow acceleration. The hot, humid coastal climate of Aventura can affect exhaust parts, sensor wiring, and electrical connectors over time. Stop-and-go driving on Biscayne Boulevard and I-95 can force the engine to adjust its fuel trim more often. Drivers from Hallandale Beach, Sunny Isles Beach, and Golden Beach often turn to O2 sensor testing when the check engine light comes on. A proper scan confirms whether the issue is the sensor, wiring, catalytic converter, or vacuum leak. Other times, it points to another engine performance problem.
